The Young Engineers in Society (”YES” for short) is a committee formed under the Association of Engineers in Society. It aims at establishing a platform to promote the objectives of the Association amongst young engineers and engineering related professionals.

Mission of the committee:

  • Arouse social awareness and participation of young engineers in society.
  • Assist young engineers in their career development in Hong Kong and Mainland.
  • Foster communication and exchange of young engineers between Mainland and Hong Kong.
  • Enhance communication with the media and general public in the education of engineering undergraduates and any issues affecting the prospects of young engineers in the society.
  • Encourage interaction of young engineers with other young professionals such as accountants, architects, lawyers, town planners, surveyors, etc.

Different kind of activities organized by YES:

  • Careers talks for university students and young graduates
  • Seminars and discussion forums on career development, communication skills or engineering related issues
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses on different engineering topics and aspects

Through the connection of the Association with local companies and organizations such as the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, YES will arrange visits to local construction sites and engineering infrastructure as well as delegations to major cities of China Mainland and pertinent infrastructure projects. Exchange scheme/on-job training for undergraduates/young engineers between Mainland and Hong Kong will also be organized to help our young members develop their careers outside Hong Kong.

YES will also play an active role in bridging the communication between the Association and local universities’ students in engineering disciplines. Representatives from local universities will be co-opted into the committee, where they will have the opportunities to express their concerns and interests.

Being organized by a group of young professionals, YES can better understand and focus on the needs of our young members. Succeeding the strength of the Association, YES will encourage all our young members to participate in different activities, social gatherings and functions, truly achieving the aim of “Young Engineers in Society”
